Horses. Countryside. Good company.

Throstle Nest Livery

A proper country yard

Set within the farm at Throstle Nest, our livery offers a relaxed and practical home for horses and riders in the heart of Nidderdale.

It is a yard for people who enjoy their horses: whether schooling in the arena, riding out through the farm or simply spending time at the yard.

We aim to provide the essentials well — good stabling, grazing, useful facilities and a friendly environment in which horses can settle and owners can enjoy being with them.

From the school to the countryside.

Riding at Throstle Nest

Riding

More than somewhere to keep a horse

The yard sits within a working North Yorkshire farm, giving riding at Throstle Nest a distinctly rural character.

The arena provides somewhere for regular schooling and exercise, while the farm tracks and surrounding countryside offer a very different change of pace.

Some days are for schooling. Some are for getting out into the countryside. And some are simply for enjoying your horse.

In the country

The Horses

A good place to be a horse

Every horse is an individual. Good livery begins with an environment in which horses can be horses:
turnout, routine, sensible management and space to settle.

Owners retain the pleasure and responsibility of looking after their own horse, within the structure and facilities of a well-run shared yard.

Clear arrangements and consideration for one another help keep the yard safe, practical and enjoyable for everyone.

Yard Life

Serious about horses.
Not too serious about ourselves.

A good yard is also a community.

Throstle Nest is intended to be friendly, straightforward and sociable: somewhere people know one another, lend a hand when needed and enjoy having their horses together.

Your horse. Your riding.

No particular uniform required.

Hack, school, hunt, compete or simply enjoy owning your horse.

We are less interested in what discipline you choose than in providing a pleasant, responsible yard for people who care about their horses and enjoy the countryside around them.
